We love adaptogens for the way they make us feel and how these mighty herbs help regulate our well-being.
Adaptogens are roots, herbs, and other naturally occurring substances that work to relax the nervous system and help our bodies better adapt to stress. The word 'adaptogen' was coined in the 1940s by Dr. Nicolai V. Lazarev, but adaptogens have been used for hundreds of years around the globe, especially in eastern medicine. Adaptogens are known for decreasing heart rate, blood pressure, cortisol levels, anxiety, and depression, as well as chances of stroke, heart disease, and certain types of cancer. They can even increase our long-term resistance to stress when taken regularly. Adaptogens can also improve fertility and some are considered aphrodisiacs.
There are dozens of adaptogens, such as ashwagandha, ginseng, mushrooms, and tulsi. Adaptogens can be consumed as tonics, teas, capsules, and even in cooking. There is no “right way” to consume adaptogens. Find what works best for you and what you enjoy most!
